FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pile cushion blocks are shock-absorbing materials—like plywood, for example—placed between a pile-driving hammer and the pile to protect equipment and piles during construction. Pile cushion blocks are important because they distribute the impact and reduce stress on the pile head to prevent breakage. Pile cushion blocks prevent concrete cracking and reduce deformation of steel pile heads.

Pile cushion blocks can be square or round. Square blocks can be manufactured with clipped, rounded, or square corners.
For short piles, cushion blocks should be at least four inches thick. Longer piles require cushions of six inches thick or more

Lodge Lumber plywood cushion blocks are manufactured by laminating multiple layers of Southern Yellow Pine plywood. Layers are stacked to the necessary thickness and secured while the industrial grade adhesives fully bond. Then the stacked plywood is cut to the desired size using high-speed saws. During this process, corners are also clipped or rounded if needed.
