You can choose between rough-cut and smooth boards. Rough-cut boards typically cost more because they retain slightly larger dimensions and greater board footage. They also provide better slip resistance compared to smooth boards. Smooth boards, often referred to as S4S boards, are planed and finished to create a uniform, smooth surface, resulting in slightly smaller dimensions. While they offer a cleaner appearance, they can become slippery in wet or rainy conditions, making them less suitable for some applications.
To help prevent splitting and extend the lifespan of the planks, there are several effective options to consider. One option is to add rods to the planks, which involves installing a metal rod through the ends of each board to reduce splitting and cupping during use. Another option is choosing planks with clipped corners, which also helps to prevent splitting.
When storing your scaffolding materials, allow any wet boards to dry completely before stacking or storing them to help prevent mold growth. Storing the planks in a covered, well-ventilated, and dry area will also help protect them from premature deterioration.
MSR 2200/2400 are machine-tested strength ratings. These planks generally provide greater strength, stiffness, and reliability than DI65 planks, making them a preferred choice for demanding or heavy-duty scaffold applications.
